Alcohol and Drug Abuse
Description
Addictions to alcohol and/or psychoactive drugs are serious and chronic diseases that can be life-threatening. Both interfere with physical and mental health, family and social relationships, and occupational responsibilities. Addiction is a physical and psychological dependence on or need for a potentially harmful drug or alcohol. Addiction cuts across all social and economic groups, involves both genders, and occrs at all stages of lifecycle, beginning as early as elementary school.
There are two types of addictions: abuse and dependence.
